The EP has a broad variance in sound ranging from track to track and the release has an overall feel that would attract fans of Flyleaf and ‘Riot’-era Paramore (me being one of those fans). The band have constantly developed and honed their craft and the band are in comfortable in their darker and heavier guise, with elements of Asking Alexandria, In This Moment and Bullet for My Valentine shining through opening up all new possibilities for the band. Skarlett Riot are set to release their new EP ‘ Sentience ‘ next month and I was very happy to take on the task of reviewing it for PlanetMosh. Their last EP, 2016’s Sentience, seemed to put them on the map in more of the modern metal circles. Forming in the early part of this decade, they’ve moved progressively heavier and darker with each release. The new material is harder, heavier, faster but still driven by the anthemic hooks that have kept this band at the forefront of the UK modern metal scene. UK act Skarlett Riot hasn’t been one to take the easy way out. With the ink still drying on their contracts the four-piece, led by the unique and passionate vocals of Skarlett, headed back in to the studio to begin work on their hugely anticipated second album. Signing deals with The Artery Foundation and Artery Global were just the beginning for this highly rated act – soon they had signed a world-wide record deal with the pro-active and forward thinking Swedish label Despotz Records. There are definitely some strong influences on this band however they have a very strong style which makes them hard to get confused with any other band. After the success of their Sentience EP, hard-hitting UK quartet Skarlett Riot soon began to attract interest from far and wide.

The band has elements of In This Moment, Asking Alexandria and New Years Day with some guitar riffs similar to ones of Bury Tomorrow and The Amity Affliction. Overall a great album with some amazing riffs and powerful vocals, however it has a slightly repetitive tone through majority of the songs. Skarlett – Lead Vocals/Guitars Danny – Guitars/Backing Vocals Martin – Bass/Backing Vocals Luke – Drums The song is heavy throughout and rounds off with a solid bit of guitar and drums before having an abrupt ending. Signing deals with TKO Agency and The Artery Foundation management were just the beginning for this highly rated act soon they had signed a world-wide record deal with the pro-active and forward thinking Swedish label Despotz Records. This links the album together and links to the album name Regenerate as we have seen lyrics goes from being angry and weak to angry and powerful therefore they have ‘regenerated’ which is a smart link. After the success of their ‘Sentience’ EP, hard-hitting UK quartet Skarlett Riot soon began to attract interest from far and wide. The lyrics talk about being strong and powerful which is not portrayed much in the beginning of the album. Track 10 – Warrior has a strong message throughout, the song finishes the album on a high. Backing vocals by Danny and Martin are a lot more significant in this song in particular compared to the rest of the album. The need to head bang is felt throughout the whole course of the song significantly more than before. Track 8 – Paralyzed is the heaviest song of the whole album, it is also more focused on the guitars and drums. This is then accompanied with Skarlett’s powerful vocals and lyrics that portray her anger throughout the song.Īt track 6 – Affliction which starts off heavy but then the guitars, bass and drums retreat and are replaced by a piano and we are shown a softer side of Skarlett’s voice, however this isn’t for long because shortly after the guitars, bass and drums are back and the passion is even stronger from all parties of the band.

As the album goes on we reach track 3 – Stand Alone which starts off with a strong drum introduction which is accompanied by a little guitar before coming in full pelt with a heavy riff. An overall amazing song with a great catchy chorus which will be playing in the listeners heads for a while. Skarlett’s voice has a dark undertone during the beginning of the song before coming into the chorus where the aggression starts to show through. There is a solid bass throughout the song giving it depth. 04:07 Writer: Chloe Drinkwater - Danny Oglesby - Luke Oglesby - Martin Shepherd. The album kicks off with the song Break which has an eerie introduction before kicking off with some killer guitars. This time they are back darker, heavier and faster.
